After the defeat suffered by Red Bull Bragantino, in which he was harassed by Vasco fans, coach Renato Gaúcho was prevented from giving a press conference.

The decision, according to director Admar Lopes, was taken jointly between the management and the cast, in order to show support for the coach.

"I want to say that I and the president, the board, and Thiago, representing the players, want to accept the defeat and we didn't let Renato come to the press conference. He wanted to. I think it's time for us to assume our responsibilities at the club", began Admar Lopes.

The coach was harassed by the fans in São Januário, with glasses thrown at him in the technical area.

While protests continued outside the stadium, with attempts to invade, Renato and the board met after the match.

"What I'm going to say is that Renato was very sorry, no one likes to be criticized. There were a lot of conversations, Renato didn't resign and the possibility of him leaving is not on the table. We talked to him, an open man's talk, which will have an impact, and we made this gesture to show that we are with him. The criticism he suffered is not fair, it's not just his. We want to take our responsibility, it's never just the coach's fault or just one person", added Admar.

Renato harassed by fans
Renato Gaúcho was the target of insults in São Januário, during the defeat against the São Paulo team.

When Bragantino was already winning by a large margin, the coach began to be harassed by the fans, who threw objects in his direction.

A glass even hit Renato Gaúcho in the back, who gestured after being shouted at by the crowd: "Me?", he asked before turning towards the field.

Renato's third spell at Vasco
Renato Gaúcho is in his third spell as Vasco's coach. He arrived at the club on March 3, 2026. The signed contract is valid until December of this year.

In this period, there were 20 games: eight wins, six draws and six defeats, with 30 goals in favor and 30 goals conceded.

In Brasileirão, the situation is critical. Vasco is currently 16th, with 20 points, two more than Santos, who are in the zone.
