Actor trained accent for nine months to play character in "Euphoria"

Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, 58, had six weeks to prepare for one of the most tense scenes in the new season of "Euphoria", in which he stars opposite protagonist Zendaya. He plays Alamo Brown, a Los Angeles strip club tycoon, who becomes involved in the characters' lives due to his great power of influence.

"That was one of the best performances I've ever done on the series," says the Nigerian-British actor in an interview with Variety. "No one there would say that I was really scared about the possibility of falling off my horse", he confessed, in a comical tone.

The character is one of the antagonists of season 3, with almost the same screen time as Zendaya. He rescues Rue from her debt bondage to a drug dealer and draws her into his equally dangerous orbit of crime. His impulsiveness and violence build tension peaks in the episodes, revealing the bad choices made by the group of teenagers when getting involved in the world of crime.

"The Alamo represents a brutal awakening for these young adults and the consequences of their choices," comments Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

To play the role and be confident as Alamo, the actor reveals that he spent nine months training his typical Southern American accent: "It took me about a month to get rid of the accent and get back to being myself", he confessed. "It was a sacrifice I willingly made to create an incredible character," he says.
