Accident involving two pilot boats leaves one dead and injured on the coast

Two pilotage boats, vessels at the entrance and exit of the ports, sank between Cotinga Island and Cobras Island this Monday (6). The boat was crossing to Superagui Island, and was carrying 19 people.

Two victims were rescued in serious condition. The first was treated by the Mobile Emergency Care Service in cardiorespiratory arrest, who died at the scene. And another with hypothermia who was taken to the Hospital Regional do Litoral.

Another three victims of hypothermia were treated by the team. The remaining victims remained at Porto Marina Oceania and were gradually taken to the Hospital Regional do Litoral.

Hypothermia: when the body "shuts down"
Extreme cold can cause systemic effects. If the drop in temperature is widespread, the body is at risk of hypothermia, which is a dangerous reduction in core temperature.
