Accident in MG: bodies of 8 victims are taken to the IML in Belo Horizonte

The bodies of the fatal victims of the accident that occurred this Sunday (24) between a bus and a trailer followed by fire, on BR-251, in Santa Cruz de Salinas, in the North of Minas Gerais, were taken to the IML (Legal Medical Institute) in Belo Horizonte, in the capital of Minas Gerais.

According to the police report, eight bodies were sent for identification. At a press conference, civil police officers informed that these bodies will be subjected to specific examinations, with the aim of identification.

The tests, according to the police, consist of DNA collections to compare with genetic materials from first-degree relatives, as well as comparison tests, such as dental x-rays of the victims.

According to the police, 25 people were on the bus's passenger list, but 6 did not get on or had already gotten off the vehicle at the time of the accident. Of the 19 who were on the bus:

- Eight dead were sent to the Belo Horizonte IML for identification;
- Nine injured people were taken to hospitals in the region, two of which have already been released and seven remain hospitalized;
- One body was not found;
- And one of the drivers who helped with the rescue is missing.

The accident
An accident between a bus and a trailer, followed by fire, left at least eight dead this Sunday morning (24) on BR-251, in Santa Cruz de Salinas, in the North of Minas Gerais. The stretch is close to the Santa Cruz gas station and the border with Bahia.

According to the CBMMG (Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais), the incident occurred around 6am. The incident was initially recorded at km 236 of the highway. Teams from firefighters, PRF (Federal Highway Police), Samu and forensic experts worked at the scene.

According to the information, there was a collision between a bus and a box trailer loaded mainly with wheels and automotive parts. After the impact, both vehicles were consumed by flames and the bus overturned.
