♬ In 1981, when he was out of multinational record companies due to incompatibility of geniuses, Tim Maia (1942 - 1998) released an independent single with Portuguese versions of two recently released songs from the repertoire of the North American soul and R&B band Kwick.
"Split decision" (Allen Jones, Bertram Brown, Terry Bartlett, William Sumlin and Vince Ricari Williams) became the funk "Vê se decide", rewound by Tim in another recording made for the 1986 album. "You're the star of my show" (Allen Jones, Bertram Brown, Terry Bartlett, William Sumlin and Vince Ricari Williams) became "You're the star of my show" in Tim Maia's literal translation. This song - a rare jewel hitherto forgotten at the bottom of the Rio singer-songwriter's phonographic trunk - that Jota Quest brings to the surface, 45 years after the release of the 1981 single, among the 16 tracks on the album in which the band from Minas Gerais covers Tim Maia's repertoire.
Detail: the recording of the song by Jota Quest - which shortened the title to "Estrela do meu show" - incorporates Tim's vocals, taken from the rare 1981 single.
Put into rotation tonight, Thursday, June 25th, the double single with "Estrela do meu show" / "Não Quero Monet (Só Quero Amar)" - a great success from Tim's second album, released in 1971 - gives another preview of the album recorded with musical production signed by the band's bassist, PJ. The album is scheduled to be released in September.
