A mass of polar air will pass through the South and cause colder weather this week; look
A mass of polar air arrives with intensity in the south of Brazil, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul, in the first days of July. Low temperatures are already felt this Monday (29), when thermometers reach 10ºC in some cities in Rio Grande do Sul.
According to Climatempo, the passage of the cold front, influenced by the very intense cold in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, should be rapid.
End of June
This Monday, Gauchos are expected to spend the day with temperatures of up to 10ºC. In Santa Catarina and Paraná, the cold air mass should not influence the climate as much, as it will be moving towards the coast of Santa Catarina.
On the other hand, there is a high probability of clouds, rain and warming air during the afternoon in both states. The north of Paraná should remain with higher temperatures due to the influence of hot air in the Center-North of the country.
On Tuesday (30), the cold will be even stronger in Rio Grande do Sul and could be more intense in the border areas with Uruguay. Additionally, frost is forecast.
Rain and mild temperatures remain in the other two states.
Beginning of July with polar air mass
The southern states will be influenced by a polar mass coming from the south of South America in the first days of July. The Andes mountain range in Argentina, for example, is at risk of heavy snow.
The circulation of winds over the continent, however, should make it difficult for the cold to enter Brazilian territory with intensity.
Warning for rain
The south of Brazil is expected to face a period of heavy rain in the transition from June to July. This is due to the influence of the El Niño phenomenon, which has a great effect on the Equatorial Pacific Ocean.

According to Climatempo, rainfall can double or even triple the historical average rainfall. The forecast is that more intense rains will occur between days 1 and 2, which could exceed 150 mm in the Taquari-Antas basin, in the Guaíba Hydrographic Region, in Rio Grande do Sul.
There is also an alert for the Iguaçu river basin, in the region of Palmas, Francisco Beltrão and União da Vitória.
Temperature records
Some cities in the South even recorded negative temperatures last week. The city of Bom Jardim da Serra, in Santa Catarina, had thermometers reading -9.1ºC. Urupema, recognized as the National Cold Capital, recorded -8.3ºC.
Rio Grande do Sul presented temperatures that approached -3ºC. The "coldest" city in the state was São José dos Ausentes, in the Campos de Cima da Serra region.
The municipalities of Paraná felt the temperature was a little milder, compared to the average in other states. At least 13 cities showed positive thermometers. However, some municipalities still remained below 0ºC.
