37% of Brazilians stopped paying bills in the last month, says PoderData

A survey released this Tuesday (9) shows that 37% of Brazilians did not pay all the bills they owed in the last month. Another 61% say that neither they nor anyone in their family failed to pay a bill.

The survey was produced by Poder Data, and interviewed 2,500 people in 166 municipalities in the 27 units of the Federation.

Also according to the research, in a breakdown by age group, the majority of defaulters, 43%, are 60 years old or over. The 16 to 24 age group has the lowest number of people who have not honored financial commitments, at 30%.

In terms of education level, most defaulters have never been to school, 64%, or only have primary education, 52%. Furthermore, by income level, 66% of this group stated that they earn up to two minimum wages.

The majority of people who did not pay all their bills in the last month are found in the North region, where 54% of those interviewed said they had not honored these commitments. Another 45% say they are in compliance with their bills. Next comes the Northeast region, where 49% say they have not paid all their bills, and 49% say they have paid. Others preferred not to respond.

The compiled data also asked about the evaluation of the Novo Desenrola Brasil program, for those interviewed who failed to pay a bill. 42% of participants say that the program helped, whether a lot or a little.

Another 33% indicated that the debt renegotiation program did not help, 19% responded that they did not know about the program, and another 6% preferred not to respond.
