'Lepo Lepo', a Bahian pagode that became an 'anthem against capitalism'
In 2014, Brazil discovered that to be true love it didn't need to have the car of the year, or even its own apartment... All it took was to make a good "Lepo Lepo".
With a chorus that became omnipresent in a matter of weeks, Psirico proved that the Bahian pagode always has the strength to stop the country.
The song arrived at the Salvador Carnival that year with the reputation of "already won".

Composed by Filipe Escandurra and Magno Sant'Anna, the lyrics were a good-humored response to the ostentation that dominated funk and country music at that time.
In interviews, Márcio Victor, the band's lead singer, even said that "Lepo Lepo" was the Bahian way of talking about love and that the music could be seen as a cry against... capitalism!
Unlike the hits that talked about Camaro Amarelo, the character of "Lepo Lepo" was a slob. But even with his late salary, he ensured that his "talent" in bed made up for everything.

The national explosion also had a major help: in football, Neymar and Daniel Alves celebrated goals for Barcelona with that choreography of little hands in which open palms simulated slaps from one side to the other.
The track, of course, ended up being elected (and unanimously) the "song of Carnival" and was also among the most played on the radio that year.

Before the phenomenon, it is important to say, Psirico was already one of the biggest institutions in Bahia. But the fact is that "Lepo Lepo" went further. It reached a level of success that few songs achieve.
Because, look: even at a time when Brazil was about to welcome the world, hosting a World Cup, people, still, could only think about whether it was money, love or complicity...
