Pope Leo XVI praised this Friday (3) the United States' tradition of welcoming immigrants, and asked the country to work for unity, justice and peace.
The pontiff's speech was an official message on the occasion of 250 years of US independence, a milestone that will be celebrated next Saturday, July 4th. This was the first major speech by Leo XIV, the first North American pope in history, addressed to his native country.
