STF awaits explanations from Bolsonaro on weapon seized in raid

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), awaits clarification from former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) regarding a firearm he owned seized in a raid by the PMDF (Military Police of the Federal District). The weapon was in the possession of a soldier who is part of Bolsonaro's security team and told the police that he was taking it for repair.

Moraes gave the defense 24 hours to inform why the former president kept a pistol at home, accompanied by a charger, and why he requested maintenance of the equipment on the eve of the end of the 90 days of humanitarian house arrest granted for his recovery from bronchopneumonia.

The PMDF seized a 9 mm Glock pistol registered in the name of Bolsonaro during an approach carried out in the early hours of Monday (15). According to the corporation, the weapon was found in an official vehicle driven by a former member of the GSI (Institutional Security Office).

In the same order, Moraes also requested clarification from the command of the 19th Battalion of the PMDF regarding compliance with the inspection measures imposed during the former president's house arrest.

The minister questioned whether vehicles leaving Bolsonaro's residence, including official cars used by his security team, are being subjected to searches determined by the STF and whether GSI agents' cell phones remain stored outside the residence.

In response to the Supreme Court, the PMDF reported that it carries out inspections of vehicles leaving the residence and keeps the electronic devices of visitors and GSI agents in custody during the service. The corporation, however, stated that the vehicles used by the security team do not undergo the same inspections.

According to the PMDF, GSI cars remain parked on public roads and do not enter the garage or the internal area of Bolsonaro's residence. Therefore, stated the corporation, these vehicles are not subject to the inspections applied to cars entering or leaving the property's internal area.

According to CNN, the firearm was taken for repair and would be returned to the owner. The item was kept in the possession of the police authorities and, according to the Military Police, will be analyzed by the competent bodies.
