♫ FIRST PERSON OF THE SINGULAR
♬ "So ten years have passed...". I use the opening verse of the bolero "Ten anos" (Rafael Hernández) - popularized in Brazil in 1951 by the singer Emilinha Borba (1923 - 2005) in the Portuguese version by Lourival Faissal (1922 - 1979) - to start this text of thanks for the ten-year anniversary of Mauro Ferreira's Blog.
It was on July 6, 2016 that the g1 columnist and music critic debuted in this space on Brazil's largest news portal to talk about Brazilian music with texts of a journalistic nature.
Since then, there have been approximately 10,400 publications including reviews (mainly of albums and shows, but also of theater musicals, books and documentaries about Brazilian music) and news about singles, EPs and albums, as well as occasional chronicles. I'm happy to see that, over this decade, the column has become a reference in music journalism for artists, music industry professionals and music listeners.
At that time, the CD practically ceased to exist as a physical medium in the world of records. Music began to be consumed almost entirely digitally, with the resurrected LP becoming a collector's item, a treat for those who can pay (expensively) to appreciate the graphic art of the covers, inserts and vinyls manufactured in the most diverse colors.
And what has remained unchanged since samba is samba is the pleasure of listening to music, whether on LP, CD or audio app. The charm of discovering a beautiful song, of following the narrative of a concept album - yes, albums still survive, although singles reign supreme in a digital age where everything happens at the same time now - and of going to a concert remain the same. Everything is lit in me, everything plugged in, as the verses of Adriana Calcanhotto's song released 30 years ago in the voice of Maria Bethânia say.
With thousands of songs being released into the world every week, the function of a column like Mauro Ferreira's Blog is to act as a curator, talking about already established artists that interest readers, but also pointing out rising names that deserve attention.
Anyway, I'm still happy in this job that I do with love and passion. And I take advantage of the opportunity provided by this tenth anniversary to thank the g1 board of directors for providing and maintaining the space and to my colleagues at Pop & Arte - the publishing house that houses Mauro Ferreira's Blog - for the fine partnership over these ten happy years. And, finally, I express my gratitude to each reader, whether routine or occasional. Thanks everyone!
In addition, life goes on, because ten years have passed and the show can never stop...
