At the NATO summit, Trump predicts an end to the war in Ukraine
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, have created a good relationship recently and that the US must strive to end the war with Russia. The statement was made this Wednesday (8), at a press conference after the closed-door meeting between the two during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
The Republican stated that the meeting was the beginning of a new phase in the history of relations between the two nations and that the USA is determined to resolve the conflict with the Russians. "Ukraine has a lot of potential, it has an incredible population," he said.

"We've resolved a lot of wars, and this was the one I thought was the easiest. But Putin is a difficult figure, and this guy is difficult too," Trump said, pointing to the leader of the Eastern European country.

Troubled relationship
The declaration marks a turning point in the relationship between the two leaders. Until then, Trump and Zelensky's public speeches were marked by criticism and public embarrassment.
Since returning to the Presidency of the United States, Trump has begun to openly question the Ukrainian leader's strategy in the war against Russia, stating that Zelensky was prolonging the conflict by resisting territorial concessions and depending on Western military aid.

The American declared that the US must train Ukrainian military forces to develop the Patriot anti-missile system, considered decisive for the country's defense. "So, you [Zelensky] can't complain that we don't give you them, you will do them on your own," said the Republican.
The Patriot is a mobile surface-to-air missile system developed and manufactured by the American military equipment giant Raytheon Technologies. It is considered one of the most advanced air defense systems in the US arsenal and has been in operation since the 1980s, with several upgrades over the years

Trump expects new agreement
The Americans also stated, in the same interview, that both Russia and Ukraine want to reach an agreement to end the war. However, Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin have been "difficult."
The Ukrainian stated that he intended to discuss "some very important details" with Trump.

"I'm sure you will do everything you can to end this war," Zelensky said.
