Hamas announces that it will hand over the government of the Gaza Strip
An Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip killed a Palestinian humanitarian aid worker who organized public broadcasts of the World Cup games in several regions of the territory, according to local health authorities. The offensive took place just before the match between Egypt and Argentina.
The explosion transformed what would have been a moment of celebration - the live showing of a possible victory for an Arab team - into yet another portrait of the impact of Israel's almost daily attacks on Gaza, which continue to cause civilian deaths despite the ceasefire signed in October.

The bombing hit a car in the Sabra neighborhood, in Gaza City, at dusk on Tuesday (7). Mohamed al-Wahidi, member of the Egyptian Committee in Gaza, died; the brothers Hamza al-Deri, aged 10, and Fari al-Deri, aged 8, who were passing by; in addition to the driver Ahmed Daghmush, 33 years old. The information comes from the director of Shifa Hospital, Mohamed Abu Selmiya, who received the bodies.
The Israeli Armed Forces stated that Al-Wahidi, responsible for helping to organize the broadcasts of the games, was not the target of the operation. According to the military, the attack was aimed at a member of Hamas, and authorities are investigating whether Daghmush was the intended target.
According to Abu Selmiya, Daghmush worked as a taxi driver and was not known to have links with armed groups.

About half an hour earlier, another Israeli attack had hit the same street, but left no victims.
The Egyptian Committee in Gaza, where Al-Wahidi worked, is the humanitarian arm of the Egyptian government. The entity provides food, shelter and other types of assistance to Palestinians and was responsible for installing screens in different areas of Gaza to broadcast the World Cup matches.
A large part of the Palestinian diaspora lives in Egypt, which played a central role in mediating the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Since the start of the tournament, the Egyptian team gained even more support among Palestinians in Gaza. Coach Hossam Hassan has drawn attention to the situation of the Palestinians in interviews and during games. After the victory over Australia, on Friday (3), he dedicated the result to the Egyptians and Palestinians and entered the field with a Palestinian flag.
At the press conference before the match against Argentina, on Monday (6), Hassan made an appeal to the international community.
"I appeal to you, to the press professionals and athletes from all over the world, regardless of who they are. Maybe we can convey a collective message: let the Palestinian people exist. Let them have the right to live your own life," he said.

Israel claims that its attacks target members of armed groups and says it regrets the deaths of civilians. Since the ceasefire came into force in October, at least 1,084 people have died, including 258 children. In the same period, five Israeli soldiers also died.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas, the death toll in the war reached 73,110. The agency does not differentiate between civilians and combatants, but says that women and children represent about half of the victims.

The statistics are generally considered reliable by United Nations agencies and independent experts.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led fighters invaded southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking another 251 hostage.
