Michael Jackson covers celebrate full schedule after film's success
"Michael", a film that tells part of the King of Pop's career, was an absolute success in cinemas around the world and became the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time. And this public success had an impact on those who "live by Michael".
The artist's covers in Brazil also managed to profit from the success of the film and increased his revenues.
This was the case of Gleidson Rodrigues - or Gleidson Jackson -, who has played the singer for over 25 years. He explains to g1 that just between May and July, his schedule grew dramatically. In between 2024, he made around 12 appearances. In 2025, there were more than 50.
"The flow of signings increased by around 300% when the film came out. The big difficulty for us is that this boom means that we have offers to do shows every day, but that would be irresponsible", he comments.

The problem, according to him, is the lack of physical and logistical conditions to put on so much of a show.
Resident of Fortaleza, Ceará, he says that the majority of invitations come from the North and Northeast region and traveling around Brazil singing and dancing requires planning, even more so for those who work 100% independently. He, who is also a seamstress, produces his own clothes.

Gleidson himself is the one who negotiates a large part of his performances. After the film, the variety of invitations also grew. One of the shows was held at a bachelor party.
"There was a hire that I didn't understand well about the party and I was embarrassed to ask the client. The 'honoree' was a big fan of Michael Jackson and had Madonna too. By the way, I even know a great friend, Verônica Pires [who plays Madonna]."
"There were other things that I can't go into details, but you understand: bachelor party. You can imagine."
Guaranteed success
Rodrigo Teaser is one of the biggest Michael Jackson imitators in the world. In June, the month of Michael's death, he has a season of shows scheduled in São Paulo, generally with three dates.
Due to the success of the film, he doubled the number of presentations.
"As soon as the production released [the dates], all the shows in June were sold out. It's an effect that has happened throughout Brazil and even outside of Brazil as well. We had so many extra dates here that many shows abroad, from contractors who got in touch, I couldn't even assume", explains.

Rodrigo and Gleidson's shows are focused on Michael's golden phase, which is portrayed in the film directed by Antoine Fuqua.
They explain that, due to the success of the film, they adapted their performances to include the songs that are in the film.
"Everyone wanted the 'Bad' era, because Michael was singing 'Bad' in the film. The repertoire had to be reinvented", explains Gleidson.
The covers also explain that they noticed a more curious audience at the shows.

If before, those who attended this type of show were committed fans of Michael Jackson, now children and parents who didn't experience the King of Pop's heyday would like to have some idea of what a performance was like in real life.
"Michael is an artist who has always captivated the children's audience, and now with the film I notice an increase, there have been many more children and teenagers. The tribute audience is expanding", says Teaser.

Regarding the opinion about "Michael", the two covers have different views.

Both agree that the film did well in presenting a singer beyond the controversies, but they disagree about the quality of the film.
"I really like the film, I think it's really cool how the film puts Michael in the place of celebration. But I think that the film, because it follows a formula that we live today, is superficial. I think the production misses an opportunity to, suddenly, show certain traumas that he experienced and that would justify the misunderstood adult that he became", says Rodrigo Teaser.
"People who have lived his story for 25 years know when the thermometer says 'oh, it wasn't good' and when it's going to be a big hit. We knew it was going to be a success. I think it will compete for the Oscar next year. I don't know if it will have time, but I believe it will compete in some category", comments Gleidson.
