Gustavo Mioto says he doesn't trust rankings and evaluates funk's progress: 'What interests me is the front of the stage'

About a year and a half ago, Gustavo Mioto was on g1 He listened and talked about the "current sameness in country music". At the time, the singer stated that the musical genre was not moving forward in terms of quality.
Months after the artist's comment, the country singer lost his dominance in the top positions in the ranking of most listened to songs on Spotify. Since the end of 2025, the predominant genre in the Top 10 is funk.
Last week, Gustavo spoke again with g1 and, asked about the possibility of this change in the ranking being related to the sameness of the country, he spared no criticisms again.
"I think that ranking dominance is dominance in numbers. And we have several possibilities of how this dominance can be achieved. Right? Let's go", says Gustavo.
"I haven't been more interested in rankings, because in front of the stage we see what dominance is. And the artists that I see dominating in front of the stage, sometimes are not dominating the rankings."
"For me, what interests me is how many people are in front of the stage and how much they are singing the entire song, and not just that 15-second piece."
Mioto also stated that this dominance on platforms is subjective and that he does not trust numbers. But he does believe that sameness can be a contributing factor, since "you listen to 10 current country projects, and you hear the same thing in all 10." and we are letting this be beef."

Is an international career an escape from the country side?
In an attempt to show that there are other ways to bring new things to the country side market, Mioto is investing in his international career.
In April, the singer released the song "Last Goodbye". And, this Wednesday (8), he arrives with "Drunk Side", which will be the theme song for the 2026 Festa do Peão de Barretos.
"I look forward to seeing what new people do. And when I see new people arriving, it's usually the same things. I think there are ways of doing it and I'm very anxious for someone to come and do it differently. So, before waiting, I need to at least try to show how I would do it", says the artist after denying that the bet on country music is an escape from country music.
The full album does not yet have an exact release date. The idea is that it will come out in 2026. But Mioto is already celebrating and says that the reception of the project "was better than expected".
"To be quite honest, I expected very little, because we know that it's a Brazilian singing in another language, a country singer singing in English. There are several variables that prevent this from happening. So I thought it went very well", he says.
"We had several positive American reviews. I discovered that one of the most respected country critics there [Robert K. Oermann, from MusicRow Magazine] praised 'Last Goodbye'. He said he sees sincerity, authenticity. So, just having received this first feedback, it's already a big success." Barretos

Gustavo Mioto spent the beginning of the year in Nashville, in the United States, working on the compositions and productions of this first country album. It was there that "Drunk Side" was born.


The artist, who has already composed many songs inspired by his relationships, says that the inspiration for the new track came from the life he was leading in the American city, known as the birthplace of country.
"We were enjoying it a lot, we got to experience the city a lot, go to the bars and so on. And then, when we arrived to compose there, Paul Bailey, who is the other composer of the song, was talking about the times he drank and how much he wanted to come to Brazil to experience the parties Brazilians that he doesn't know yet and so on."
"And then, someone said in the circle: 'then you'll get to know my worst side'."
At this moment, Mioto had the idea of talking about the dangerous side of a person being the "drunk side".
The song was not created with the intention of being a soundtrack for the Festa do Peão de Barretos, but when he and his father, businessman Marcos Mioto, took the idea to the event, it was immediately supported. The singer recorded the video for the track at the Parque do Peão arena.
And, when talking about the rodeo, Gustavo states that, even after the constant changes in the musical genres of the program, the fact that an artist performs at the event continues to be a milestone in the artists' careers and has the same importance as in the past.
To give you an idea, this year, samba and pagode broke the record for participation of this genre in the line-up of the last 10 years of the event. Belo, Alexandre Pires and Pixote are some of the representatives.
"The essence of Barretos remains the same, it continues to be the biggest rodeo in Latin America, one of the biggest in the world."
"One person complaining about being at the event only weakens the festivals. If you don't want a festival, you have to understand the limitations that this can bring. Barretos is already past that. Barretos is the world and has total freedom to do that. It doesn't lose anything, it just adds up."
When asked about the opposite path - of festivals of other genres including the country music on the schedule --, Mioto is in favor.
"I've already talked about this and I took a beating on the internet. But I think that, in the same way that some artists from other genres love to play at rodeos or country events, we would also like to play the other way around." sertanejo?
"I honestly don't know, because we have no precedents. So it's going to be a new thing. If it happens, I'll think it's incredible, my intention has always been to make the country side bigger and always the country side further."
"If it doesn't happen, we already know that there's no point. And that it's just the lack of desire to have the country side there."
