Justin Gaethje starred in one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. This Sunday (14), the American defeated the previously undefeated Ilia Topuria due to medical interruption, in the main fight of UFC Freedom 250 and won the linear lightweight belt, unifying the titles in the category.


Seen as an underdog by most experts, Gaethje interrupted Topuria's perfect trajectory and prevented the Georgian from extending his winning streak in the Octagon.


The result puts the veteran back at the top of one of the most competitive divisions in the organization.

The fight
The fight started with Justin Gaethje showing why he is considered one of the most dangerous athletes in the division.


Relying on constant pressure and powerful jabs, the American was in danger at several moments in the first round and managed to balance his actions against the champion. Topuria responded with precise counterattacks at the end of the round, but found it difficult to impose his rhythm in the opening five minutes.


The scenario changed following the fight. More comfortable in the octagon, Topuria began to find the ideal distance and increased the volume of strikes.

In the second round, he landed many powerful blows to the American's body. After taking him down, he tried to throw submission attacks. But once again Gaethje showed panache.


The third round was largely dominated by the American. Gaethje was better from the beginning to the end of the round, and scored a big knockdown on the champion. Afterwards, he was dominant for all five minutes of the fight, and hurt Ilia a lot.


In the fourth, the fight was a war. Topuria almost didn't return due to the injuries he suffered. However, upon returning, he showed pride.


However, Justin continued to hurt the Georgian, and with the last blow, he left Topuria unable to return.
