In a statement, the US Central Command (Centcom) reported that, "under the guidance of the commander in chief", American forces began carrying out new bombings to "further reduce Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz".
According to the government American, the operation aims to hold Iran responsible for the "recent unjustified aggression" against commercial ships and civilian crews sailing through the sea.
The episode occurred just hours after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that the peace agreement with Iran is "over". He also threatened to launch new attacks against the country.
"I'll give you a little warning: we're going to hit them hard tonight," Trump told reporters.
"If necessary, we will cut the electricity system and water treatment plants, but we don't want that."
Despite the peace agreement announced in June, the United States and Iran have returned to exchanging attacks in recent weeks.
In recent hours, American forces have bombed targets in southern Iran after accusing Tehran of attacking three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the main routes for global oil trade.
Sirik and Bandar Abbas were US targets during the attacks on Tuesday (7).
