David Beckham and U2 team up in charity short film shown at the World Cup

Former football player David Beckham, 51, will star in a charity short film, which will be shown during the final games of the 2026 World Cup. Entitled "Street of Dreams", inspired by the hit of the same name by the English band U2, which is also present in the film, the production tells the story of a young woman whose life is marked by her homelessness, but who does not abandon her dream of becoming a football player.

"After having his life turned upside down, Calle clings to football as a source of purpose and possibilities", says the film's description. "As she deals with uncertainty and insecurities, she is guided by Sir David Beckham, who emerges as the personification of her inner voice - a guardian that only she can see. He is a powerful symbol of belief and opportunity, supporting her and standing by in decisive moments."

Although it will not air in full, 30 seconds of the production will be broadcast on Fox and Telemundo during World Cup coverage, starting on July 13, including the semifinals and final. The action seeks to give visibility to Bank of America's "Sports with Us" platform, of which Beckham is an ambassador. The initiative aims to make football an accessible sport for more than 1 million young people around the world.

"We had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Street Child World Cup in Mexico City in May and came away with much more than we expected. As proud supporters of Street Child United, it was a privilege to be there in person to watch some great football, soak up the atmosphere and witness these extraordinary young athletes," said the band U2 in an interview with Variety. Vocalist Bono and the other members make an appearance in the final minutes of the short.

"Street of Dreams" was directed by Radha Ganti and Robert Lopuski - better known as King She, whose work has received more than 75 awards and nominations, including recognition at Cannes Lions and the AICP Award for Best New Director.
