Soybeans rise in Chicago with purchases from China and American harvest

In this Tuesday's session (7), the soybean futures contract for delivery in November closed the session on the Chicago Stock Exchange quoted at US$ 11.97 per bushel, up 0.46%.

According to Granar's analysis, oilseed prices expanded the gains recorded in the previous session, when they increased by around 4%. Despite a profit-taking movement throughout the day, the market found support in purchases from China and the worsening conditions of North American crops highlighted by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).

According to information from Reuters, Chinese state-owned company COFCO acquired at least five shipments of soybeans from the United States, equivalent to around 300 thousand tons, with shipments scheduled between September and November. Market sources consulted by the agency estimate that the volume could double in the coming days, reaching approximately 600 thousand tons.

In American crops, the USDA reduced the share of crops classified between good and excellent from 65% to 64%, a result below market expectations, which projected the index to remain at 66%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 66%.

The report also showed progress in the development of the crop. Corn futures contracts closed Tuesday's session higher on the Chicago Stock Exchange. Among the main maturities, the contract for December advanced 1.42%, quoted at US$4.64 per bushel.

According to analysis by Royal Rural, the market has once again incorporated a climate premium into quotations. With the beginning of July, the North American crop enters the pollination phase, considered the most sensitive of the cycle, when periods of intense heat and irregular rains can quickly compromise production potential.

The USDA reported that 16% of crops are already in heading, above the average of the last five years, of 14%. Although 67% of the harvest is still classified as good or excellent, the market is focusing its attention on the weather conditions in the coming weeks, which will be decisive for defining productivity.

Weather forecasts also supported prices by indicating higher temperatures and less rainfall in areas of the American West. If this scenario persists, the risk of crop losses increases and, consequently, the need to incorporate a risk premium into quotations.

In addition to the United States, Europe also faces climate concerns. In France, the European Union's main corn producer, the percentage of crops classified between good and excellent fell from 76% to 58%, the lowest level for this time of year in 13 years, reinforcing uncertainties about global supply.

Another factor that boosted the market was the movement of investment funds. According to Royal Rural, many investors maintained short positions and began to repurchase contracts in the face of increased climate risk. Estimates from Farm Futures indicate that the funds purchased around 38 thousand corn contracts on Monday, accumulating approximately 52 thousand contracts purchased in the last four sessions, a movement that contributed to accelerating the rise in prices.

Wheat

The wheat futures contract for delivery in September closed this Tuesday's session with an increase of 0.73%, quoted at US$ 6.18 per bushel.

According to analysis by Granar, cereal prices increased on North American stock exchanges for the second consecutive session. The movement was driven by the expectation that the USDA will once again reduce its estimate for the country's production in the supply and demand report that will be released on Friday.

The perspective gained strength after the body revised, at the end of June, the wheat planted area from 17.73 million to 17.30 million hectares.

In addition, the market remains attentive to weather conditions in the Northern Great Plains. The heat wave in the region could compromise the development of spring wheat, after the USDA indicated, at the beginning of the week, a worsening in crop conditions, a factor that reinforced support for prices in Chicago.
