US and Iranian officials said on Friday (12) that a memorandum of understanding to end the current conflict is close to completion, raising expectations that the document will be signed in the coming days.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the deal had "never been closer" and said the memorandum could be signed remotely after final negotiations were completed.

According to American and Iranian officials, the document would serve as a preliminary step towards a broader agreement and would open a 60-day period of technical negotiations between the two countries.

Understand the points of the agreement
According to a United States government official, the memo includes:

- Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz;
- End of the American blockade of Iranian ports;
- Dismantling of the Iranian nuclear program;
- Transfer of enriched nuclear material from Iran to the United States, where it would be destroyed;
- Possible gradual easing of economic sanctions imposed on Tehran.

The American government claims that any economic benefit would only be granted after Iran fulfills its obligations.

"The Iranians receive nothing at the time of signing," said an American official. According to the source, each step taken by the Iranian regime would result in specific economic rewards.

Disagreements
Despite progress in negotiations, Washington and Tehran continue to present different versions of the terms of the agreement.

While the United States highlights Iranian concessions related to the nuclear program, the Iranian government has emphasized points such as easing sanctions, respecting the country's sovereignty and ending regional conflicts.

Araghchi said the memorandum will include not only nuclear and economic issues, but also a solution to the clashes in Lebanon and on "all other fronts" of the regional conflict.

The Iranian foreign minister also declared that Iran is prepared to resume war if negotiated terms are not met.

Israel maintains position
Amid the negotiations, Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, stated that the country does not intend to withdraw from the areas it occupies in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza.

According to Katz, Israel will continue to act against threats linked to Iran and armed groups supported by Tehran in the region.

Tension in Hormuz
Late Friday night, CENTCOM (US Central Command) reported having intercepted several Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the American military, the aircraft sought to disrupt commercial maritime traffic in the region. CENTCOM stated that all drones were shot down and that navigation in the maritime corridor continues without restrictions.
