Track no. 26 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
The New Godfather (Film Version).
Composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina, this 50 seconds short cue was included in Rota's score
presentation. But, contrary to it's title, not actually used in the film. Released in 2022, it is part of
what already was track no. 10 (The New Godfather) on the 1972 OST.
Comparing this to that version, after the initial first segment which mixes Michael's Theme with elements
of Kay's Theme which also found it's way onto this re-release under the title Marry Me, Kay, this Film Version
is identical to the OST version from 1:12 on. Meaning that second segment is this exact track and not a
re-recording or arrangement. When I tabbed the OST version some years ago, I focused on the melody line.
This time, I also included the other voices.
The piano comes in first and keeps playing the same note throughout. It is soon joined by the clarinet and
oboe playing within octaves. Then the horn and brass section play accents. Transposal to the mandolin in
GDae standard tuning.
