Track no. 34 on disc 1 of The Godfather 50th Anniversary expanded and remastered edition:
The Horse's Head (Trumpet Solo).
This is the extended version of what was edited to be the shortened intro of another track from this 2022
re-release; The Horse's Head (Film Version). In doing so, it effectively combined this cue with the score
presentation, non-film version of The Horse's Head which lacked this very opening segment and had a slightly
different arrangement. Walter Murch was the editor behind these ideas.
This trumpet solo, as well as what Nino Rota had composed and Carlo Savina had conducted, was noted as Il
Cavallo ("The Horse"). It plays the melody to the Main Title or, as Rota noted it, Titolo ("Title"). It would
also become a substantial part of The Godfather Waltz, there played by a cornet, though. Transposal to the
mandolin in standard GDae tuning.
