Transcrber's notes:

Jeff mentioned in a podcast that he played chords and strummed his bass like a guitar back in the day.

First piece of advice: most of this stuff cleans up real nice with the following:

(1) A trebly. distorted bass tone with some clean tone blended in really makes it. REALLY tame the low end.
If you play DI with a dual tone, tame the low end on the clean signal with a compressor.
The idea is that your lows stay clean, mids and highs get the overdrive grit.
If you can get a distortion pedal with a blend knob, better. Dirt with transperency is the goal.

(2) Most chords are down strummed with a lot of power. They clean up really well if
you roll your strum a bit. Imagine your pick hitting the lowest string of whatever chord you're playing
and the higher string getting struck a millesecond after.

Anyway, that's my take on Jeff's bass parts. Have fun.
