The open E and open A bass notes are pedaled with the thumb on every down beat. Occasionally the bass note on the 1-beat is accented with a second bass note to create a galloping feel. The notation (2)/6 is meant to indicate a quick slide up to 6 from 2. This is different from the second time this slide occurs, in which there is a drag, meaning that the 2 is played and there is a slight pause before dragging the note (sliding) up to 6.
