And these three men home rejoicing went

But The sun shone bright and the wind blew soft

And it rained in a day or so

John Barleycorn felt the wind and the rain

e ele logo começou a crescer

and he soon began to grow

Mas o centeio também começou a crescer

But the rye began to grow as well

E o centeio cresceu lento e alto

And the rye grew slow and tall

John Barleycorn cresceu rápido e baixo

John Barleycorn grew quick and short

E ele provou que todos eles são mentirosos

And he proved them liars all

Então eles contrataram homens com foices

So they hired men with sickles

Para cortá-lo na altura do joelho

To cut him off at the knee

Mas o pior de tudo é John Barleycorn

But the worst of all John Barleycorn

Eles o serviram barbaramente

They served him barbarously

To beat him high and low

And they called him home brewed ale
