The Iran team had yet another setback in their preparation for the World Cup. The friendly against Granada, which would have been the team's last test before their debut in the tournament, was canceled after the Grenadian delegation was unable to travel to Mexico, the Iranians' new base.
According to the Granada Federation, the national team's players were not fit to make the trip. The match would take place behind closed doors, as occurred in the friendly in which Iran beat Mali.
This was the third friendly match canceled for the Iranian national team on the eve of the World Cup. Initially, Iran would face Puerto Rico at its training center in Arizona, in the United States. However, the match was canceled after the delegation changed venue.
