The offensive is the first in Lebanon after the new escalation between Israel and Iran, which exchanged attacks in violation of the ceasefire in force in the Middle East war. Tehran accuses Benjamin Netanyahu's government of having broken the truce with the attacks it has been carrying out on Lebanon.
The target this time was the historic city of Tire, in southern Lebanon. In a single bombardment, an Israeli missile hit the eastern outskirts of the city, killing eight people, according to local authorities. Thousands of residents fled Tire after Israel issued an evacuation order for the entire city.
Iran said it would respond to any new Israeli offensive in southern Lebanon or the capital Beirut.
New escalation
Despite Trump's appeal, Israel and Iran exchange attacks for the first time in the truce
Iran and Israel suspended mutual attacks on Monday (8), following an appeal from United States President Donald Trump. However, both sides maintained a threatening tone.
âž¡ The exchange of fire interrupted the ceasefire in force since April and launched the war in the Middle East into a new escalation. See the main events below:
On Sunday (7), Iran attacked Israel in retaliation for Israeli bombings against Lebanon in recent days.
Hours later, Israel responded and bombed three points on Iranian territory, including targets in Tehran.
On Monday morning (8), Trump appealed for both countries to stop the attacks: "Israel and Iran must immediately stop the 'shooting'".
Hours later, Iran's military command announced the suspension of the attacks and said he gave a "painful response" to Israel.
Half an hour later, it was Israel's turn to announce the interruption of the bombings aimed at Iran.
Despite the suspension of the attacks, the Israeli Prime Minister maintained the threats. Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that, if Iran attacks Israeli territory again, Israel will respond "with force".
Citing government sources, the news agency Reuters stated that Israel decided to stop the attacks after the Israeli Prime Minister spoke on the phone with Trump - last week, the two fell out after the North American demanded that Netanyahu stop the attacks on Lebanon - a request that was ignored by Israel.
The suspension of Israeli attacks, however, will only apply to bombings on Iran, and the offensive in Lebanon will continue, said the source interviewed by Channel 12.
The TV network report also stated that Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon will continue with full force in the coming days and that there will also be bombings on the capital Beirut if the terrorist group Hezbollah continues attacking northern Israel.
