The Deliberative Council (CD) of Corinthians concluded, on Monday night (8), the trial of the counselors involved in the attempt to regain power promoted by former president Augusto Melo in May 2025. In a vote held in Parque São Jorge, the plenary decided to expel three of the four counselors submitted for analysis: Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé, Paulo Juricic and Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos.

The trial of Mario Mello Junior, which was also on the meeting's agenda, ended up being postponed. During the session, the counselor felt ill and had to be taken to the club's outpatient clinic for medical care. Due to the incident, the vote on his case was suspended and there is still no new date defined for its consideration by the plenary.
With the expulsion of Maria Angela, the position of first secretary of the Deliberative Council will be vacant. According to Corinthians' statutes, there will be no election to fill the role, as there are less than six months until the club's next electoral process.
The session continued the meeting that began last week, when the councilors decided to exclude Augusto Melo from Corinthians' membership. At the time, the analysis of other cases related to the same episode was also planned, but the trial was postponed following a request from Maria Angela herself, who cited family issues as to not be put to a vote at that time.
In addition to the four cases sent to the plenary, other counselors investigated by the Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Deliberative Council received recommendations for milder punishments and, therefore, did not have their cases submitted to the plenary for a vote.
Carlos Eduardo Melo Silva, Rodrigo Simonini Gonzalez and Wanderson Contrera Salles were recommended to be suspended for six months, while Marcos Coelho Abdo and Paulo Rogerio Pinheiro Junior were punished with a three-month suspension. Laercio Ferreira Victoria, Leandro Olmedila and Peterson Ruan Aiello do Couto Ramos were sanctioned with a warning.
As previously revealed by Central do Timão, the Ethics and Discipline Commission had issued a favorable opinion on the expulsion of Augusto Melo, Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos and counselors Paulo Juricic, Mario Mello Junior and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé, all identified as participants in the action that took place during the impeachment process of the former president.
Remember the case
The episode that gave rise to the disciplinary proceedings occurred on May 31, 2025. On that date, Augusto Melo tried to resume the presidency of Corinthians after Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos claimed to have taken control of the Deliberative Council and annulled the impeachment vote that had resulted in the removal of the then president.
The initiative was attended by political allies of the former president, who went to the presidential floor in Parque São Jorge. However, the then acting president, Osmar Stabile, refused to leave his position and maintained his position that he legitimately continued to lead the club's administration. Romeu Tuma Junior, president of the Deliberative Council, also did not recognize the supposed change of command of the body.
Without institutional support, Augusto Melo's attempt to return failed, but triggered a series of disciplinary proceedings against those participating in the action.
The investigations conducted by the Ethics Committee were based, among other elements, on images captured by the social club's monitoring cameras, which identified the participation of counselors and members in the events of that day.
Other expulsions at the Associate Ethics Committee
The participants in the May 31, 2025 episode who were not part of the Deliberative Council were judged by the Members' Ethics Committee, a committee made up of five members appointed by the board to analyze disciplinary issues involving club members.
On the same Monday night, Walmir Costa and Claudinei Alves, responsible for 87 signings in the youth categories during the Augusto Melo administration, were expelled from Corinthians' membership by the Associates' Ethics Committee. The decision can still be appealed to the plenary of the Deliberative Council.
