IT'S #FACT: Photos show a stadium that is located near a mountain in Mexico and will host World Cup games

Posts are circulating on social media showing photos taken from inside a stadium in Mexico, from where it is possible to see a huge mountain. The captions mention that the venue will host 2026 World Cup games. IT'S #FACT.

What are the posts like?
Posts published this Monday (8) on X show photos taken from inside a football stadium, from where it is possible to view a large mountain. See an example of a caption, which has had more than 3 million views: "If there's anything exciting about the World Cup, it's the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico. The view is insane."
The scenographic appeal made users question whether the image had been generated by artificial intelligence (AI). See two examples of comments: "Is this place IA?"; and "You know this is fake and you still post it."
But the photo is really true. In addition to detection tools having ruled out the use of AI, official records and images from Google Maps prove that the mountain known as Cerro de la Silla is just a few kilometers from the state (read details below).
The World Cup begins this Thursday (11), with the game Mexico x South Africa. Valid by the Group, the match is scheduled for the Azteca stadium, in Mexico City. Brazil debuts on Saturday (13), against Morocco. The United States and Canada are the other two venues for the tournament.

Fato ou Fake submitted the photo to three tools that identify content created or manipulated with AI, and none of them indicated the use of this resource. See analysis results below (and infographics below):
Sightengine - "0% probability of content being generated by AI or deepfake."
Hive Moderation - "This content was not generated by AI."
SynthID Detector - The platform, which identifies materials generated specifically with Google's AI models, pointed out: "It was not produced by any Google AI. SynthID does not detect at any point in the uploaded content." This technology inserts a watermark that is imperceptible to humans (who cannot verify the indicator just by watching the scenes or listening to the audio), but detectable by the system. Unlike other models that generate deepfakes from real materials, Google's AI produces hyper-realistic scenes from scratch, that is, without reference to something real previously published.

Fato ou Fake also searched on Google Maps to check the distance between Cerro de la Silla and the Monterrey stadium: it is about 2.8 kilometers.
Photos taken from inside the stadium and made available on Google show that, yes, it is possible to see the top of the mountain at least from two of the four sectors of the stands.

Photos and videos of the mountainous surroundings of the stadium are on an official profile of the Club de Fútbol Monterrey, a local team that plays games at the BBVA Stadium. In an Instagram post made this Monday (8), the team celebrated: "The world is celebrating, Monterrey opens its doors. Welcome! We, the Rayados, are the hosts of the World Cup."
As the International Football Federation (Fifa) website indicates, there will be three group stage games and a knockout game.
