The PT (Workers' Party) launched this Monday (8) a new letter to the evangelical public during the party's 4th National Meeting of Evangelicals. The document highlights the national directory's desire to avoid the use of faith for electoral purposes.
"Our commitment is not born from the electoral use of faith. On the contrary, we share the understanding that faith must be respected in its spiritual, community and ethical dimensions. As President Lula recently stated, one should not take political advantage of a sacred thing", says an excerpt from the letter.
During the event in BrasĂlia, packed with evangelical party activists, members of the panel reading the letter mentioned laws sanctioned by President Luiz InĂĄcio Lula da Silva (PT) for the creation and free worship of churches, as well as decrees for the recognition of gospel music as national heritage.

Operation targets illegal sale of weight loss pens in Rio and SP
An operation by Decon-RJ (Consumer Police) targets a cell selling illegal weight loss pens this Tuesday morning (9) in..."We live in a time when evangelicals are often presented as if they formed a single bloc, with a single voice and a single political position. This image does not correspond to reality", says an excerpt from the letter.
Gutierrez Barbosa, coordinator of the PT's interreligious sector and organizer of the meeting, told CNN that the guidelines presented are linked to the will of the voter: "Even internal surveys show that voters reject those who use religion in the political environment."
The evangelical public is an old challenge for President Lula during the election period. Voting intention surveys indicate that this segment of the electorate opts for candidates more linked to the conservative camp, mainly on the right. Under the approach of Senator FlĂĄvio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in the polls for president, the progressive camp is articulating ways to attract the religious vote.

Among the strategies to be adopted for 2026 are also the increase of a network of evangelical digital influencers, the reinforcement of dialogue with "medium churches" and the strengthening of a "broad evangelical front". In the latter, the idea is to have pastors and faithful affiliated with other parties or even without a party.
Other points
The document also mentions the focal points of the PT directory focusing on the October presidential elections, such as:
- the expansion of public policies aimed at women's comprehensive health, with a focus on care and support in relation to physical and mental health;

- the creation of public policies aimed at youth, with a focus on their first job;

- the guarantee of access for the black population to the justice system.
The panel mentioned that topics related to the government plan will be included in another manifesto to be published in the coming days. Non-consensual issues within the militancy, such as abortion, were not mentioned.
In addition to the first lady, Janja da Silva, the event was attended by the president of the PT, Edinho Silva; senator Eliziane Gama (PT-MA); federal deputy Benedita da Silva (PT-RJ); councilor Aava Santiago (PSB); federal deputy Marina Silva (Rede-SP), among others.
