Delegate who killed teenager at pedestrian party in SP is dismissed from office

The dismissal of Vinícius Martinez from his position as delegate was published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo, this Monday (8). He is accused of killing a teenager at a pedestrian party.

It is stated in the publication of the Official Gazette that the ex-delegate's order takes place as an administrative disciplinary process and application of a penalty. The document was signed by the state governor, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

In a note, the SSP (São Paulo State Department of Public Security) declared that the institution reaffirms its commitment to legality, ethics and rigor in investigating misconduct, not admitting practices that are incompatible with the functional duties of police activity.

The 16-year-old teenager was taken to hospital after being hit, but did not survive.

During investigations, the SSP stated that the shooting occurred during the attempt to arrest a man who had allegedly committed contempt against military police officers.

However, it was found that the police chief shot four times when intervening "unjustifiably" in a police approach that was taking place in a controlled manner, according to the MPSP (Public Ministry of São Paulo).

The police chief was arrested in the act and his weapon was seized, answering for consummated homicide with possible intent, qualified by the victim's inability to defend himself and the fact that he had put other people at risk and went before a popular jury in the year following the crime (2025).

However, he paid bail equivalent to around 20 minimum wages and was released.
