Consumers' search for foods with higher protein content, ingredients associated with health and well-being (wellness market) and formulations with fewer artificial additives should sustain the growth of ADM's Nutrition division in the coming years, according to Ian Pinner, global president of the segment.
During a webcast promoted by Barclays bank, the executive stated that these transformations have been expanding the company's potential market, especially in areas such as vegetable proteins, functional ingredients and natural dyes.
ADM's Nutrition division reports annual revenues of approximately US$7.5 billion and is exposed to an addressable market of approximately US$34 billion on the human nutrition front.

Trump's approval rating remains near historic low amid expectations of further fuel hikes in the US
US President Donald Trump.REUTERS/Evan VucciUnited States President Donald Trump's approval rating has remained close..."If we think about current trends, they span lifestyle, science, functionality and innovation. And the demand for protein is probably just beginning," Pinner said.
Among the main growth vectors highlighted by the company is the increase in demand for proteins. According to the executive, ADM's potential market in this category exceeds US$5 billion, with emphasis on soy and pea proteins.
"Today it is difficult to open a publication without finding some discussion about the demand for protein", he stated.

Pinner classified the segment as "the nutritional story of the decade" and stated that the demand for enriched products has led manufacturers to reformulate existing items and launch new lines focused on protein.
In addition to consumer demand, ADM sees an additional boost in periods of high meat and dairy prices, when plant-based proteins are considered competitive alternatives by manufacturers.
Food coloring
Another structural change observed by the company occurs in the American food coloring market, as the country announced, in April, its intention to ban the use of petroleum-based pigments. The combination of consumers paying more attention to the composition of products and regulatory initiatives aimed at reducing artificial ingredients has accelerated the search for natural solutions, according to the executive.
"When these two forces meet, you typically don't see slow growth," he said.
ADM estimates that the migration to natural colors represents a revenue opportunity of approximately US$900 million in the United States, with the potential to generate between US$80 million and US$100 million in operating profit throughout the conversion process.
Wellness
The consumer trend linked to health and well-being has also boosted the company's functional ingredients business. The area, which brings together prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, is currently the fastest growing within ADM's human nutrition division.
According to Pinner, the addressable market for probiotics and postbiotics is estimated at around US$3 billion. The company is particularly committed to postbiotics, whose thermal stability expands the potential for application in beverages, foods, pet products and animal nutrition.
"We are just at the beginning of a very long growth journey for the Health & Wellness business," he said. In addition to the supplements market, the company sees opportunities in functional beverages, foods, pet food and animal nutrition.
Reorganization
At the same time as it seeks to capture these market trends, ADM works to recover profitability in areas that have faced operational difficulties in recent years, in addition to seeking to navigate these turbulent waters.
According to Pinner, the Nutrition business gives the company a good boost in 2026, but factors such as inflation, interest rates, and consumer and customer behavior are on the radar, he said.
The executive highlighted the resumption of the Decatur, Illinois, unit in the United States, which had reduced customer service capacity and affected the results of the special ingredients division.
According to him, the negative impact represented between US$20 million and US$25 million per quarter in opportunity costs.
According to the company, the normalization of operations is already beginning to appear in the financial results and should reinforce the growth of the special ingredients business, which includes texturizers, emulsifiers, grains and proteins.
In animal nutrition, the strategy has been to concentrate resources on segments with greater growth and profitability. The company created a joint venture with Alltech in the North American feed market and has been reducing exposure to operations considered less profitable.
When asked about new acquisitions, Pinner said that ADM continues to evaluate opportunities, but indicated that the current priority is to increase the returns on assets incorporated into the portfolio over the last decade. "We are very focused on our organic growth plan," he said.
For the human nutrition division, the company's expectation is for annual revenue growth at an average pace of single digits, accompanied by margin expansion, supported by the combination of innovation, operational gains and exposure to consumption trends considered structural.
