The federal government announced this Monday (8), during the Bahia Farm Show, an ordinance that increases flexibility for rural producers to use discounts on their energy bills for irrigation and aquaculture.
The measure regulates Law No. 15,235/2025, which updated the rules for tariff discounts granted to the rural class, and should allow producers to adapt irrigation schedules to the needs of crops without losing the benefit on the electricity bill.
Under previous rules, the discount was concentrated in specific periods of the day. With the new ordinance, the benefit can be used over a wider window, between 9:30 pm and 5 pm the following day, continuously or in installments.

Senegal team is searched on the track upon arriving in the USA; journalist reports approachTensions due to the harsh i...According to the ministry, the consumer himself will have preference in defining the scale of use of the discount and will be able to adopt different times throughout the year, according to the characteristics of each crop and climatic conditions.
In practice, the change allows producers to carry out irrigation at times considered more suitable for plant development, such as early in the morning or at night, while maintaining access to discounted energy rates.
The government's expectation is that the flexibility will increase the efficiency of irrigation use and contribute to productivity gains in the field. The measure also seeks to improve the distribution of energy consumption throughout the day, reducing the concentration of demand at certain times.

The benefit will not be applied, in general, between 5pm and 9:30pm, the period when peak consumption of the electrical system normally occurs.
The announcement was made during the Bahia Farm Show, in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA), the main agricultural fair in Matopiba, a region that brings together areas of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia and concentrates one of the main frontiers of agricultural expansion in the country.
The measure should have an impact especially in regions with a strong presence of irrigated agriculture. West Bahia alone has more than 409 thousand irrigated hectares, consolidating itself as one of the main irrigation hubs in Brazil.
