The 20th edition of the Bahia Farm Show begins this Monday (8), in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA), the main agricultural fair in Matopiba, a confluence between Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia, and should focus billion-dollar investment announcements, discussions on rural credit and the presence of some of the main political leaders aiming for the 2026 presidential succession.
Amid debates on the renegotiation of rural debts, construction of the 2026/27 Harvest Plan, rural insurance and credit for investments, the event will be the stage for billion-dollar announcements in the areas of agriculture and energy, in addition to bringing together ministers, parliamentarians and pre-candidates for the Presidency of the Republic.
The opening of the fair will be attended by vice-president Geraldo Alckmin and ministers André de Paula (Agriculture and Livestock) and Alexandre Silveira (Mine and Energy).

The program was expanded in relation to the R$ 10 billion previously announced during Agrishow and comes at a time of slowdown in sales of agricultural machinery. The sector attributes the drop in business to high interest rates, the reduction in producer margins and credit restrictions faced by the countryside.
The energy area will also gain prominence. Among the expected announcements are investments in the electricity sector in Bahia, including Neoenergia Coelba's R$24 billion plan until 2030. New federal contributions linked to the energy area are also expected to be detailed during the event.

Important region for agriculture
The announcements take place in a region that is experiencing a period of expansion in agricultural production. In Western Bahia alone, the 2025/26 harvest reached 14.6 million tons in an area of 3.02 million hectares.
Soybeans account for around two-thirds of the cultivated area, while crops such as cotton, corn, sorghum and wheat increase their share. The region also has more than 409 thousand irrigated hectares, one of the largest irrigation centers in the country.
In addition to debates on credit and investments, the Bahia Farm Show should function as a showcase of technologies for agricultural production, irrigation, storage, energy, logistics, digital agriculture and machines.
The fair also marks the resumption of livestock auctions within the official schedule, reinforcing the organizers' strategy of expanding the presence of the livestock sector in a region traditionally dominated by grains and cotton.
This year, the fair reaches the largest size in its history. The park was expanded by 35%, reaching 38 hectares. The expectation is to surpass 550 exhibitors, bring together around 1,400 brands and receive more than 162 thousand visitors over the six days of programming.
Agriculture in the presidential race
The 2026 edition should also transform Luís Eduardo Magalhães into one of the main political stages of Brazilian agribusiness on the eve of the electoral race.
In addition to the confirmed participation of vice-president Geraldo Alckmin and federal government ministers, there is an expectation that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit the fair on Thursday (11). Presence has not yet been officially confirmed.
Political interest in the Bahia Farm Show reflects the growing importance of Matopiba for Brazilian agribusiness.
Despite taking place in Bahia, a state won by Lula in the 2022 presidential elections, Western Bahia brings together municipalities with a strong agribusiness presence that gave then-president Jair Bolsonaro a wide advantage in the last election.
A possible visit by Lula would have additional symbolic weight as it takes place precisely in one of the most dynamic regions of national agricultural production, at a time when the government seeks to strengthen dialogue with the sector on issues such as debt renegotiation, rural credit, rural insurance, infrastructure and the Harvest Plan.
The program should also include the presence of senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who has an agenda scheduled for Tuesday (9), and may receive the former governor of Goiás Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), whose participation has not yet been confirmed.
The two are pre-candidates for the Presidency of the Republic and arrive at the Bahia Farm Show at a time when agribusiness has become one of the main fields of political dispute for the 2026 elections.
Caiado has one of its main political bases in the sector. Rural producer and former leader of the UDR (União Democrática Ruralista), he built his public career linked to rural issues and has presented his experience at the head of Goiás as a showcase for the presidential candidacy.
In recent months, the governor has intensified agendas at fairs and events in the sector, defending expanded credit, investments in infrastructure and legal security for producers - and agriculture has signaled the former governor as a strong name for support.
Flávio Bolsonaro has expanded his national presence amid discussions about the succession of former president Jair Bolsonaro within the conservative camp. The senator has sought to strengthen ties with leaders in agribusiness and the business sector, defending the sector's agenda.
Agricultural demands
The concentration of leaders and possible presidential candidates occurs at a time when producers are pressing for solutions to issues considered priorities, such as the renegotiation of rural debts, the expansion of rural insurance, access to credit and investments in logistics infrastructure.
Among the region's main demands are the completion of the FIOL (West-East Integration Railway) and the duplication of BR-242, works considered strategic to reduce transport costs and increase the competitiveness of Matopiba's agricultural production.
FIOL is seen by the production sector as one of the main bets to transform logistics in Western Bahia. The project foresees the connection between the grain, cotton and mineral producing region in the interior of Bahia and Porto Sul, in Ilhéus (BA), creating a new flow route for production destined for the foreign market.
The expectation of producers is that the railway will reduce dependence on road transport, reduce logistical costs and increase the competitiveness of Brazilian exports.
The work is also considered strategic due to its future connection with FICO (Central-West Integration Railway), allowing part of the Matopiba and Central-West production to be integrated into ports in the Northeast.
During a meeting with journalists before the fair, leaders from Aiba (Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia) stated that the completion of the railway remains among the sector's main demands. According to the entity, although the project has progressed in recent years, there is still expectation for new announcements and a greater pace of execution of works.
The duplication of BR-242 is seen as essential to guarantee greater safety and traffic capacity on one of the main routes used to transport grains, fertilizers, machinery and fuel between western Bahia and the region's ports.
