Operation targets fraud scheme in online stores in Rio

A fraud scheme on online commerce sites is the target of an operation by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police this Monday morning (8).

According to investigations, suspected criminal associations used third-party personal data to create false registrations on digital platforms belonging to the companies Casas Bahia and Ponto Frio. Thus, they made illicit purchases of products, which were then sent to addresses linked to those responsible for the scheme.

In this morning's action, 28 search and seizure warrants were executed in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Niterói and São Gonçalo.

The investigations, which tracked 12,819 fraudulent purchases and analyzed 73,715 suspicious orders, identified an estimated loss of R$11.7 million to national commerce. The court warrants were issued after representation from the police authority and a favorable statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Operation targets group that commanded electronic scams across the country

According to the Civil Police, the operation aims to gather digital evidence, seize electronic devices and materials related to the frauds being investigated, in addition to identifying everyone involved in the criminal structure and deepening the investigations related to the group's financial and logistical movements.
