The proposal to end the 6×1 scale - six days of work and one day of rest - should begin to be debated by senators this week. The expectation is that the topic will be discussed between party leaders and the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), in a meeting scheduled for Tuesday (9).

The text approved by the Chamber of Deputies reached the Senate more than ten days ago, but has not yet received a ruling from Alcolumbre. According to him, the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) will not go directly to the plenary and must undergo analysis in committee. The intention is to align the processing of the matter at the meeting with the bench heads this week.

Considered an electoral asset, the PEC was approved in the Chamber in the last week of May. The government considers the agenda a priority and defends rapid approval. Alcolumbre, however, has already signaled that the Senate will not just act as a "stamp" House and must suggest adjustments to the text. He stated that the text will be analyzed "without rush".

The president of the Senate is experiencing a tense relationship with Planalto, which has deteriorated since the rejection of Jorge Messias's name for a vacancy in the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

In parallel, an alternative text, which determines remuneration per hour worked, has already received an order from Alcolumbre and has been sent to the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission). The matter was articulated by the opposition and presented in the Senate to oppose the end of the 6×1 scale.

As CNN showed, however, the proposal to reduce working hours approved in the Chamber should have priority in analysis at the CCJ. Once sent to the commission, it will be up to the president of the collegiate, senator Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), to nominate the rapporteur.

The PEC that received the approval of the deputies defines a 14-month transition to reduce working hours from 44 to 40 hours per week in two stages with a reduction of two hours each, without a reduction in wages.

The first will be done 60 days after the text is promulgated. The second will be done 12 months later, totaling 14 months after the promulgation of the new amendment.

In practice, the proposal aims to guarantee the end of the 6×1 scale with the determination of two days of rest, which will also come into effect 60 days after the promulgation of the text. According to the article, the day of rest should be "preferably on Sundays".

The text had the support of the government and was articulated by the president of the Chamber, deputy Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). Production sectors, however, criticize the proposal and assess the risk of economic impacts with increased production and service costs.
