Iran's players who will compete in the World Cup have received visas to enter the United States, a White House official told Reuters on Friday (5), just 10 days before the team's debut in Los Angeles, amid the conflict between the two countries.
Abolfazl Pasandideh, Iran's ambassador to Mexico, said on Thursday night (4) that the team had not yet received their American visas, but that they were granted overnight, according to a White House official.
The spokesman for the Iranian World Cup federation did not return Reuters' contacts for comment.

The United States has not yet issued visas to some members of the Iranian national team's technical and administrative team, the news agency reported. semi-official Fars this Friday.

The war with Iran has turned the World Cup - the biggest global sporting event - into a geopolitical dispute, with both sides apparently using the tournament for political demonstration purposes.

This is the first World Cup, since its creation in 1930, in which a host country will host a nation with which it is at war.
Tehran negotiated, at the last minute, the transfer of the team's base from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, due to visa problems and a growing feeling in Iran that the team's presence in the United States should be minimal.
The Iranian delegation is expected to land in Tijuana early on Sunday morning (7).
Iran will play its first Group G match on June 15 against New Zealand, in Los Angeles, where it will also face Belgium before playing against Egypt in Seattle.

The United States will never formally said they did not want the Iranian team to remain on their territory, Ambassador Pasandideh said.
However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers on Tuesday that the US would not allow Iran to include in its World Cup delegation individuals linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a powerful branch of the Iranian military.
Mehdi Taj, president of Iran's soccer federation, was denied entry to the draw for the tournament in Washington in December. He is a former commander of the Revolutionary Guards.
Iran's desire to compete in the World Cup underscored its efforts to reach a resolution in the war with Washington, Pasandideh said.
"Iran's participation in the World Cup - even in territory considered enemy - demonstrates that Iran seeks peace," Pasandideh said, speaking through a Spanish interpreter at the Iranian embassy in Mexico City.
Progress in peace talks between Iran and the The US has been slow, with both sides apparently moving at a crawl toward an interim agreement even as they continue to carry out military strikes.
