Spain coach celebrates absence of injuries and values friendlies

Spain's coach, Luis de la Fuente, gave a positive assessment of the 1-1 draw with Iraq, in a friendly played this Thursday, in La Coruña. The coach highlighted the absence of injuries and the opportunity to observe new players before the World Cup.

One of the favorites for the world title, the Spanish team entered the field with a very modified formation compared to the team considered to be the starter.

"Today the most important thing was the sensations and giving opportunities to other players. We had no injuries, and that is fundamental. Now we begin a stage with more intensity and more players participating. Tomorrow we will be in the United States, and that means our focus is exactly where it needs to be", said De la Fuente.

The coach highlighted that preparations will enter a new phase with the arrival of the delegation in North America.

Spain will be based in Chattanooga, in the state of Tennessee, during the World Cup. Before the debut, the team will still face Peru in a friendly in the city of Puebla, Mexico, next Monday (8).

De la Fuente chose to preserve several important names, including Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Pedri, Rodri and Mikel Oyarzabal, all spared for physical reasons.

On the other hand, youngsters like Marc Bernal, Jon Martin, Javi Guerra and Leo Roman made their debuts for the main team.

"Everyone deserved this opportunity. The match allowed players who had been working well to debut. They helped us a lot. They are athletes for the future and will certainly be called up to the main team again. It was another objective achieved", said the coach.

Spain debuts in the World Cup on June 15 against Cape Verde, in Group H, which also includes Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

The main doubt for the start of the competition remains Lamine Yamal. The Barcelona striker is recovering from an injury to the back of his left thigh suffered in April. According to De la Fuente, the recovery schedule maintains optimism that the player will be available for his debut, although there are still no guarantees.

"The plan continues to be to follow the established schedule, and this gives us confidence that it can be ready for the 15th. Things are progressing very well, but there is always the possibility that we will need to make some adjustments to the process", he concluded.
