The CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber) claims to be prepared for the expansion of the free energy market. In an interview with Alta Voltagem, a CNN television program, CCEE's Director of Market Operations, Gerusa Côrtes, said that the entity has been anticipating the market opening process and has made investments to absorb the increase in the number of consumers able to migrate to this environment.
The so-called free energy market is a contracting environment in which consumers choose their energy suppliers and negotiate price, term and source contracts. Today, it represents around 42% of all electricity consumed in Brazil.
"We are prepared for the opening of the free energy market, as we anticipate receiving this entire new contingent of consumers in the free market", he said.

Brazil, France or Spain? R$9 billion selection is the most valuable in the World Cup; see ranking
Rio's streets are decorated for the World CupThe most valued players on the planet, distributed among 48 teams, begin...Brazil has around 90 million energy consuming units. These are residences, industries, commercial properties. But only consumers connected to medium and high voltage can be on the free market. The government's forecast is that mass migration could happen as early as 2028.
According to cuts, to receive a large volume of consumers, investments were concentrated on three main fronts: technology, process simplification and communication with new consumers. Technology aims to guarantee a greater volume of data and system stability. The second front is the simplification of processes, especially for low voltage. The third front is communication for new consumers", he said.
The statements come at a sensitive time for the free market. In recent years, a number of traders have faced serious financial difficulties.

Gerusa recognizes that market growth brings challenges, but assesses that part of the problems are related to the transformations that have occurred in the Brazilian electricity matrix in recent years. According to her, the accelerated expansion of intermittent renewable sources, such as solar and wind energy, has significantly changed the operational and commercial dynamics of the sector.
"In the last ten years we have undergone a significant evolution in the Brazilian electrical matrix, which has brought operational and commercial challenges. These challenges and themes are not new and have been worked on and discussed over the years", he stated.
The executive highlighted that issues such as price formation methodology, volatility, default and financial guarantees are already part of the sector's regulatory agenda and have been debated for years by market agents.
"Our top priority today is to advance the definitive prudential monitoring rules, also advance discussions on the regulation of sanctions and penalties and, in the future, financial safeguards", he said.
The speech takes place amid discussions about strengthening the supervision and risk management mechanisms of the free market. The implementation of permanent prudential monitoring rules, the improvement of penalties for defaulting agents and the creation of new financial safeguards are highlighted by experts as important measures to reduce systemic risks and avoid new chain effects caused by the insolvency of market participants.
