The pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), stated this Thursday (4) that the absence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the March for Jesus is due to his "incompatibility" with the event's audience. According to the former governor of Goiás, the PT member would be "harshly booed" if he attended.

"What confirms his absence here is his incompatibility with the people, that's the truth. If he came here today, he would be heavily booed, and he knows he has no way of facing the population", said Caiado.

Earlier, Lula stated that he would not participate in the event to avoid interpretations of political use of the celebration.

The march, held during the Corpus Christi holiday, was attended by authorities and political leaders, including senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), and the attorney general of the Union, Jorge Messias.

Caiado refuted the justification presented by Lula and stated that the president avoids public events because of popular rejection.

"That's not why he doesn't participate in events. Because he knows today that he doesn't have the minimum conditions to appear in public, that's the truth", he said.

The former governor also criticized the federal government and accused the president of using the public administration structure for electoral purposes.

"It is using all the federal government's resources to try to reverse the election results, using all populism and all the artifices, penalizing the Brazilian economy to try to win the election," he said.

To journalists, Caiado also commented on a possible alliance with the former governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema. According to him, the main objective is to unify the center-right to defeat the current government.

"My understandings with Zema have been discussed. The important thing is that we are united to reach the second round with a candidate who beats Lula. That is the main point."

When addressing the construction of a single candidacy, Caiado stated that the name of the center-right that reaches the second round cannot carry questions capable of causing divisions in the political field.

"Each person must explain themselves in the face of what they have doubts about. The relevant point is that events that may occur tomorrow with pre-candidates from the center-right do not cause a split in the second round. If we arrive with many wounds that have not yet healed, the center-right could be omitted and we lose the second round. This is unacceptable", he concluded.
