♬ "Tempo de samba" is a strictly reductive title for the album released yesterday, June 3, by mandolinist and guitarist Rodrigo Lessa with flautist and saxophonist Edu Neves. As guitarist Luís Filipe de Lima highlights in a text written to present the album "Tempo de samba", Lessa and Neves are musicians belonging to a generation that, starting from choro, followed the Latin route that led to genres such as jazz and, of course, samba, generally in a modern gafieira atmosphere.
It is along this path that Rodrigo Lessa (mandolin) and Edu Neves (flute and soprano sax) travel once again throughout the nine original songs that make up the essentially new repertoire of the album "Tempo de samba", recorded with arrangements and musical production by Lessa.
With the exception of "No gurufim do Tio Sam", a partnership between the artists released on an album in 2004, the remaining eight songs are new. Alone, Rodrigo Lessa signs "Tererô", "Montuno carioca", "Practical manual for good loafing" - a tribute to the rascals of bygone times in Lapa, a neighborhood in the center of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) with legendary contours in Rio's musical memory - and "Samba Infinito".
Edu Neves sings alone "Maxixe acebolado" and "Nelson". Together, in addition to the aforementioned song "No gurufim do Tio Sam", the partner musicians - who have already been part of the Rio group Pagode Jazz Sardinha's Club - are the authors of "Capataz Dionízio" and "Tô dogzinho".
This entire repertoire was recorded by Rodrigo Lessa and Edu Neves on the album "Tempo de samba" in the great company of virtuosos such as Antonio Neves (trombone), Bruno Barreto (percussion), Carlinhos 7 Cordas (seven-string guitar), Luís Louchard (guitar), Lucas Videla (percussion) and Marcus Thadeu (drums and percussion).
