Donald Trump's former national security advisor, John Bolton, is expected to plead guilty for withholding documents related to national defense, according to information released by the American press this Thursday (4). Bolton was part of the Republican's first government and became one of his main critics after leaving office.
A federal grand jury in Maryland, near Washington, indicted Bolton, 77, in October for disclosing and withholding documents. The former aide initially pleaded not guilty.
The court scheduled a new arraignment hearing for June 26.
According to American media, Bolton will plead guilty to withholding documents in exchange for paying a fine of more than two million dollars.
In a book he published in 2020 about his almost a year and a half as an advisor to Trump, Bolton stated that the Republican president is "incapable" of leading the United States.

The court accuses Bolton of having "abused his position as national security advisor by sharing more than a thousand pages of documents" with two people in his inner circle who were not authorized to access this type of information.
Local media reports that the two people he shared the information with were his wife and daughter.
Bolton was the third political figure to be indicted since Trump's return to the White House in January 2025, following in the footsteps of former FBI Director James Comey and New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
