Hezbollah leader Naim Qasem called for a "global ceasefire" in Lebanon and an Israeli withdrawal from the country, which a senior official from the group said pro-Iran, amounts to a rejection of the truce announced after negotiations between the two countries in Washington.
"The ceasefire must be global (...) and without the freedom to kill for the enemy in Lebanon," said Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Qasem in a message broadcast on his movement's Al Manar channel.
Israeli and Lebanese envoys held the fourth round of negotiations in Washington on Wednesday, with mediation from the United States. They agreed to implement a ceasefire conditional on the cessation of Hezbollah attacks.
A senior Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP on Thursday that the group rejects the truce.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun awaited the group's response to the deal, which he described as a "last chance" to reach a comprehensive truce.
The decision was communicated "to the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri", an ally of the Shiite organization, who "shares the same position", said the senior Hezbollah official.
Qasem urged the government to stop "the farce and humiliation called direct negotiations" with Israel. "As long as our people are not safe (...) the settlements (in northern Israel) will not be safe," he added.
