What it was like for the first test flight of the plane that will take the longest route in the world
The European aeronautical manufacturer Airbus concluded on Tuesday (2) the first test flight of the A350-1000ULR plane. The plane was designed to fly for up to 22 hours straight and surpass the record for the longest direct commercial flight in the world.
The MSN 707 model flew for 3 hours and 43 minutes on a route to and from Toulouse, France, and reached an altitude slightly above 41,000 feet or 12,500 meters, Airbus reported.

The aircraft was flown by a team dedicated to the company's tests and was equipped with specific instruments for the experiment.
For the first time, it will be possible to fly non-stop between Sydney, Australia, and destinations such as London, in the United Kingdom, and New York, in the United States. In practice, this change can reduce total travel time by up to four hours.

What is the secret behind planes that can stay in the air for more than 18 hours?
The longest commercial flight in operation at the moment is that of Singapore Airlines, between Singapore and New York, with approximately 15,350 km and a duration of more than 18 hours. The flight between Sydney and London, for example, would reach 18,500 km.
The A350-1000ULR (ULR is the acronym in English for "ultra-long range") is a variation of the A350-1000. One of the differences to the standard version is an additional tank with capacity for an additional 20,000 liters of fuel, which increases the range by more than 1,800 km, according to Airbus.
"During the first flight, the crew carried out general performance checks of the aircraft and tested the new fuel system architecture. This marks the beginning of a two-month flight test campaign to certify the modifications," said Airbus.
The manufacturer also said that it will carry out certifications on ventilation and temperature control inside the cabin, as well as a new refrigeration system in the on-board kitchen, created to be lighter and more efficient for long-haul flights.
The first 12 units of the model were ordered by the Australian airline Qantas.
Delivery was subject to delays, but the airline should receive the first unit in April 2027 - the initial deadline for inaugurating the route was 2025 and had already been postponed to the end of 2026.
Airplane could surpass record of longest flight in the world
The investment is part of what the company called the Sunrise Project. It got its name because, due to the difference in the time zone between Australia and the rest of the world, passengers will be able to see the sunrise twice on longer flights.
The airline also ordered another 12 units of the A350-1000, intended for long-distance flights, but with slightly shorter routes.

What the longest flight in the world will be like
Qantas reported in 2025 that, to offer more comfort, it will carry up to 238 passengers per flight, down from around 300 seats in the standard version of the aircraft.
The Qantas project includes a wellness zone with options for passengers to stretch their legs, eat and hydrate. In addition, everyone will have access to Wi-Fi during the flight.
The plane will have 6 seats in first class, 52 in business class, 40 in premium economy class and 140 in economy class.
Find out more about each of them:
First class with private room with reclining armchair, bed, 32" TV, six storage areas, wardrobe and space to work and eat;
Business class with wide 2 meter long armchair (which can be turned into a bed), 18" TV, side table, wireless charger, storage area and option to close the cabin;
Premium economy class with leg and headrests, 13.3" screen and personal glove compartment;
Economy class with headrest, extra legroom, 13.3" screen.
The company also said it worked with sleep experts to reduce the effects of jet lag by adopting more appropriate lighting and meal times.
