David Gilmour, guitarist for Pink Floyd and owner of some of the most emotional solos in the history of rock, revealed who his favorite guitarist of all time is. The name chosen by the musician was Jeff Beck, one of the most respected and innovative figures in the guitar world.
The statement appeared in a recently recovered interview, in which Gilmour was asked which guitarists impressed him most. The musician explained that he has many favorites, but, when pressed to choose just one name, he pointed to Beck as the person he admired for the longest and most consistent way.
The choice makes sense within Gilmour's trajectory. Just like the Pink Floyd guitarist, Jeff Beck has always been recognized for prioritizing expression, timbre and musical sensitivity. More than speed or technical display, Beck was admired for his ability to make the guitar sound like an extension of the human voice.

Paul McCartney Reveals the Real Reason the Beatles Never Reunited
Even more than five decades after the end of the Beatles, one question continues to intrigue millions of fans around t...Jeff Beck began his career in the 1960s with the Yardbirds, a band that also had two other guitar giants in its history: Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. From then on, Beck built a career marked by experimentation, mixing rock, blues, jazz fusion and other musical languages.
Unlike many stars of his generation, Beck never seemed to seek fame at any cost. According to the article, he received important invitations, including the possibility of joining the Rolling Stones. The guitarist even played jams with the band, but decided not to go any further.
Beck would have considered that everything around the Stones was too big, with internal and external pressures that didn't match his personality. He also went so far as to say that if he had continued with the group, he would probably have come into conflict with Keith Richards.
Toque agora.
Jeff Beck's control over the guitar was often described as almost supernatural. In his hands, the instrument seemed to laugh, cry, sing and talk. This ability to create unusual sounds, with extreme precision and emotion, helped consolidate his nickname as "the guitarist's guitarist".
The importance of his hands was so great that Beck even took a curious measure: after cutting his thumb while cooking, he took out million-dollar insurance to protect them. The value cited was 1 million pounds, reinforcing how his technique was seen as an artistic heritage.
Jeff Beck died in 2023, aged 78, leaving an immense legacy. His influence crosses generations and reaches musicians of different styles, especially those who see the guitar not only as an instrument of virtuosity, but as a tool for emotion and sound creation.
By revealing Beck as his favorite guitarist, David Gilmour also pays tribute to one of the most inventive figures in music. The statement shows that even a master like Gilmour had his own references and recognized Jeff Beck as a unique artist, capable of redefining the limits of the electric guitar.
