World Cup: bar bets on drinks with player names and desserts inspired by flags
With player graffiti on the walls, big screens throughout the room and dishes inspired by world football stars, a gastrobar in the East Zone of São Paulo found the formula to attract customers and grow in the most popular sport in the country.
At the head of the business are partners Stefany Marques and Fernanda Tardochi, who transformed their passion for football into a venture that today earns around R$ 1.5 million per year.
The bar, located in Itaim Paulista, was born from Stefany's desire to undertake in a segment with which she was already familiar. Daughter of restaurant owners, she grew up following the family's routine in the food sector, but decided to invest in her own business model.
The first attempt was a football themed party. Despite the good start, the format lost strength over time. "Balad has a durability. You open it, have a 'start' of two years and then end up having a decline", says Stefany.

It was during this period that Fernanda joined society. What began as support during the renovation of the new space became a definitive partnership. Today, the two share the management of the business: Stefany takes care of the financial and purchasing areas, while Fernanda leads marketing and team management.
The gastrobar's proposal was to combine the relaxed atmosphere of sports bars with more elaborate dishes. To do this, they hired a chef who had already worked in renowned restaurants in the capital of São Paulo.
The idea was to bring a different gastronomic experience to the region, preventing residents from having to travel to central areas of the city.
Today, the business has 25 employees and an average ticket of R$80. On the menu, dishes and drinks have names linked to the world of football, such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For the World Cup, the businesswomen also created a dessert inspired by the colors of the Brazilian team. The expectation is that the tournament will further boost the movement of the house.
The partners plan to increase the capacity of the space from 120 to 200 customers, invest in themed decoration, big screens and musical performances during the games.
In addition to the expected movement with the World Cup, the businesswomen are already thinking about the next steps. The plan is to open a new unit in the central region of São Paulo to reach an even larger audience.
"Our chance is to win over customers while they are here. If they have good service, good food and good drinks, the chances of them coming back are high", says Fernanda.
