What motivated the strike?
Called by the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP), the strike is a protest against a labor reform proposal approved by the Council of Ministers and sent to the Portuguese Parliament in May.
The unions claim that the changes could make labor relations more precarious, by expanding possibilities for temporary hiring and changing rules on working hours and employment relationships.
The Portuguese government argues that the proposal seeks to increase the competitiveness of companies and adapt the job market to the new demands of the economy.
In addition to aviation, the strike is expected to affect other transport services in Portugal, such as the Lisbon Metro, Comboios de Portugal (CP) and part of the Carris operation, responsible for urban transport in the capital.
