Former president Augusto Melo was expelled from Corinthians membership on Monday night (1st), after a trial carried out by the Deliberative Council in Parque São Jorge. The punishment was approved by a large majority of the councilors present and is based on the director's participation in the attempt to regain control of the club that took place on May 31, 2025.

Augusto was tried as a result of the events that marked the end of May last year, when a group of advisors and associates occupied the floor of the Corinthians presidency in an attempt to reverse the removal determined by the Deliberative Council within the scope of the impeachment process related to the VaideBet case.
On the occasion, counselor Maria Angela Ocampos, first secretary of the Deliberative Council, declared herself president of the body and announced the reappointment of Augusto Melo as president of the club's board of directors. The decision was based on a request filed by the Ethics and Discipline Committee that defended the removal of Romeu Tuma Júnior from the presidency of the Council.
According to the interpretation presented by Maria Angela, Romeu's eventual departure would result in her assuming command of the organization, since the then vice-president Roberson de Medeiros was away on medical leave. The act, however, was not recognized by Romeu Tuma Júnior nor by the then acting president of Corinthians Osmar Stabile, who classified the initiative as illegitimate and without statutory support.
Despite the movement, the attempt to return Augusto Melo to the position had no practical effect and the club's command remained unchanged. The episode, however, gave rise to a series of internal disciplinary procedures that culminated in the trial held this Monday.
In addition to Augusto Melo, others involved in the action are also facing disciplinary proceedings and may be removed from Corinthians membership. As anticipated by Central do Timão, the Ethics and Discipline Commission recommended the expulsion of Maria Angela Ocampos, first secretary of the Deliberative Council, and the members of the collegiate itself Mario Mello Junior, Paulo Juricic and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé. The cases will be considered by the Deliberative Council next Monday (8), when new trials should take place.
The investigations conducted by the club identified, through images from the internal monitoring system, the presence of approximately 50 people in the presidency area during the attempt to regain power. In addition to the counselors involved, associates also participated in the mobilization.
This Monday's expulsion is another chapter in the institutional crisis that marked Augusto Melo's administration. On August 9, 2025, Corinthians members had already confirmed, in a General Assembly, the definitive dismissal of the director from the club's presidency. At the time, 1,413 members voted to maintain the removal, against 620 votes in favor of the return of the then president. Two blank votes and two invalid votes were also recorded.
Elected to lead Corinthians for the 2024-2026 period, Augusto Melo remained president between January 2024 and May 2025.
During his administration, the club's total debt rose from R$1.9 billion to R$2.5 billion, in a period marked by political disputes, questions about the institution's financial management and the scandal involving the sponsorship contract with the bookmaker VaideBet.
In parallel with the consequences in the associative sphere, Augusto Melo is also facing charges of criminal association, qualified theft and money laundering related to the VaideBet case.
Fans pressed for expulsion
Outside Parque São Jorge, Corinthians fans attended the Deliberative Council meeting and demonstrated in favor of the expulsion of Augusto Melo. With this Monday's decision, the former director became the third former president to leave the club's membership in just one week.
The first case occurred last Monday (25), when the Deliberative Council approved the expulsion of Andrés Sanchez in a process related to the irregular use of Corinthians' corporate card for personal expenses. Days later, Duilio Monteiro Alves announced his resignation from the title of redeemed partner even before the conclusion of the trial investigating similar accusations.
The three episodes were accompanied by a strong mobilization of fans. Collectives like Expulsion Já! and the organized fans Gaviões da Fiel publicly demanded accountability from the former directors and pressed for the adoption of severe punishments, including dismissal from the club's membership. The actions of these groups contributed to keeping the issue in the spotlight during disciplinary proceedings.
