Hackers broke into the Instagram account of a senior United States Space Force official and temporarily posted a series of pro-Iran and anti-American propaganda content, some referencing the Vietnam War.

A video reviewed by CNN used audio of "Hanoi Hannah," a notorious Vietnam War propagandist, telling American soldiers to "abandon a sinking ship."

The video also showed images of Ali Larijani, a senior Iranian security official, killed weeks after the start of the war between the United States, Israel and Iran.

In a Facebook post Sunday night, Chief Petty Officer John Bentivegna, the Space Force's top enlisted military officer, advised his colleagues not to click on links or interact with videos posted by his account.

"We are working with the appropriate teams to regain access and resolve the issue as quickly as possible," said Bentivegna.

A Space Force spokesperson confirmed the hack but declined to answer questions about how long the content remained posted on Bentivegna's account or who was responsible for the incident.

The Space Force has played a significant role in U.S. military operations against Iran. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine credited the force with using "non-kinetic effects" to hamper Iranian defenses when the United States began bombing Iran on February 28.

American military leaders have repeatedly warned their troops that their phones and online accounts could become targets during war.

US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for the Middle East and other regions and leading the US military campaign against Iran, recently informed Congress that it had "received multiple reports of threats related to the exploitation of commercial location data by adversaries to track or monitor operating US military personnel."

In late April, several U.S. Marine Corps personnel, civilian employees and their families received what the Navy called "unproven" threats via text message from a suspected Iranian hacking group.

One of the messages analyzed by CNN said: "Your identities are fully known to our missile units, and every move you make is under our surveillance."

The hacking of Bentivegna's Instagram account is just the latest episode in the propaganda war that has accompanied the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Lego Style: Who are the Iranians behind viral war videos? | H TIME

In March, Iranian hackers broke into FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email and released some of his old photos and messages. Young Iranians also used artificial intelligence to create Lego-style viral videos ridiculing President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the American war effort.

In turn, the White House and U.S. Central Command released sophisticatedly edited videos of military attacks that, to many observers, resemble video games like Call of Duty.
