Fugitive for participating in ambush that killed fan is arrested in SP

A man wanted by the courts on suspicion of involvement in the ambush against Cruzeiro fans, which resulted in the death of a man and left several injured on Rodovia Fernão Dias, in 2024, was arrested this Sunday (31) in São Paulo (SP), according to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP).

The arrest was made in Jardim Jaqueline, west of São Paulo. The suspect provided false data during the approach of the 16th Battalion during Operation Impacto Dagger 15, but was identified by a facial recognition system.

The person being investigated is identified as a participant in the attack that took place in October 2024, in Mairiporã, in Greater São Paulo. On that occasion, buses carrying members of an organized Cruzeiro fan base were intercepted by members of "Mancha Verde", a Palmeiras fan base.

An ambush involving fans of Mancha Verde, organized fans of Palmeiras, against fans of Máfia Azul, organized fans of Cruzeiro, left at least 17 injured and one dead, on the morning of October 27, 2024, at KM 65 of the Fernão Dias highway, in Mairiporã (SP).

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the confrontation took place on the stretch of highway, towards Belo Horizonte, at around 5 am, when Mancha Verde fans invaded the highway lanes and intercepted the Cruzeiro fans' group, which was coming from Curitiba.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the confrontation would involve more than 100 members of the two groups. Images circulating on social media show several Mafia Azul fans lying on the side of the highway, while members of the Palmeiras fans shout "It's Mancha! It's Mancha!".

A Cruzeiro fan identified as José Victor dos Santos Miranda, aged 30, a member of the Mafia Azul de Sete Lagoas, died charred in the attack. Through its social networks, Cruzeiro regretted what happened, and took a stand against violence in football.
